Channeling Quinn O’Grady: Ransom Canyon Looks That Are Chronically Stylish

Over the past few weeks, I binged both seasons of Ransom Canyon. The show pulled me in from the get-go. The storylines, scenery, and acting were all incredible. Something else that had me captivated? The clothes. Especially Quinn O'Grady's. I found myself wanting almost every outfit she wore. Seriously - in almost every scene she was in, all I kept thinking was add to cart. Her looks had this wonderful mix of western, boho, and feminine details that are 100% my vibe. Another thing that occurred to me while adoring her looks was how inherently chronically ill friendly many of them were. So whether you love the show and Quinn's style too, or are just looking to inject a little western chic into your wardrobe, keep on reading!

Ranch jacket

One piece that is a staple both in Quinn's wardrobe and western wear in general is a ranch jacket. Now, these jackets do double duty, serving both utilitarian and fashion functions, and thus feature heavy construction with fabrics like denim and canvas to endure tasks necessary for said ranch. That heavy construction is not exactly friendly to chronically ill bodies, with their weight and unforgiving structure. But there are plenty of alternatives. Fleece zip up jackets, suede shearling jackets, and even a sherpa or fleece pullover can achieve the same look, because all of those options have the same boxy silhouette as the ranch jacket, but are made with body friendly fabrics that are warm, comfortable to wear, and unequivocally western chic.

Flowy boho midi dresses

Quinn wore so many of them, one more beautiful than the next. My absolute favorite was the Reformation Denim Corset Midi Dress she wore in the episode "Can't Never Could." The denim dress, topped with a soft, cable knit brown cardigan, is the epitome of feminine, western style. If you're interested in that exact dress like I am, keep in mind that Reformation clothes can run small. Denim isn't always a restrictive fabric, especially when it's in a chambray or soft cotton blend, and constructed in a looser silhouette. Either way, the flowy midi (or maxi) dress achieves that perfect western aesthetic, while simultaneously being super easy to wear for us chronically ill ladies. A long sleeve cotton midi dress with a southwestern, Aztec or ditsy floral print is the perfect swap for jeans and even sweatpants. You'll look like Quinn's twin, with zero restrictions and pinching waistbands to boot. Even as temps dip, you can still channel her by wearing one of these flowy creations. Throw on a pair of leggings underneath to add an extra layer of warmth. And wearing a cardigan over it will help keep you toasty, too, not to mention add to the cozy, feminine, western vibes.

Oversized, open-front cardigan

Speaking of cardigans...you probably know by now that I love a good cardigan. It's one of my favorite articles of clothing, for good reason. They're versatile - coming in numerous styles and fits, perfect for layering in any season, and just an all - around great way to stay warm without completely obscuring the outfit you have on underneath. To amp up the western flair, adding one to your look is a perfect way to take a page from Quinn's stylish book. Make sure it's oversized or slouchy - cable knits would be a great choice - and in colors such as rich chocolate brown, sage green, sandstone, or rusty or terracotta tones. Another way to incorporate western vibes is with patterns. A Fair Isle cardigan could work here, too, especially if it features Aztec-like patterns in the aforementioned color palette. Pay attention to material, too, opting for soft modal or bamboo fabrics to ensure maximum comfort. The bold pattern will draw the eye away from any area you may be self conscious about, and the open-front design means that temperature regulation will be a breeze. Whether wearing one over your midi dress, or pairing it with leggings, it is a perfect way to ensure your look is rodeo-worthy.

Western accessories

Nothing says "howdy" like a western accessory. Fringe, turquoise jewelry, and cowboy hats are Ransom Canyon staples; all of them surefire ways to inject country chic style into your outfit. A suede fringe jacket is an obvious choice. But honestly, fringe on virtually anything achieves the same vibe. Fringey earrings, scarves, and tops with fringe detail all look equally overtly southwestern. Another staple on Ransom Canyon is turquoise jewelry. Don't be shy with it, either. If you want to layer chunky turquoise bracelets with turquoise rings like they did on the show, go for it! But if you favor a more Quinn-like minimalist aesthetic, try wearing a simple turquoise pendant necklace instead. Or a dainty turquoise bracelet or ring. Add lots of silver accents, too, to amp up the western vibes.

As we all know, the a cowboy hat is the ultimate country western accessory. Consider getting one that is lighter weight (so that it's easy to wear), has a softer construction (a hat that is low on the rigidity scale), and one that has a wider brim (to protect that pretty face from the sun). And since we're heading into the winter months, a crushable wool felt cowboy hat is a stylish and comfortably warm way to look like a western goddess.

As far as footwear is concerned, you may find yourself unable to wear Quinn's adorable duck or cowboy boots. But never fear, suede Ugg-style boots (or even slides) are here! Ellie very prominently wore BEARPAW's in the show, so it totally works for keeping with its vibe. They are a perfect swap for either boot, looking very much similar to either under your boho western dress, or even over leggings paired with a slouchy, southwestern print cardigan and some turquoise jewelry.

Hopefully you enjoyed this style roundup as much as I did! Western boho romance at its finest - fit for chronically ill girlies like us. Yeehaw!
