Oh Look,The Amazon Driver Is Here: 3 Quick Hacks to Make Sleepwear Look Like an Outfit

The reality of chronic illness is often less than glamorous. Whether you're fighting a flare or having an exhausted day, sometimes you just don't have the energy or ability to leave the house, and the only thing that feels comfortable is pajamas. Real talk: some days, even the the sidewalk isn't my runway. My home's hallway is. But I found a way to feel human and pretty when I'm feeling anything but. Read this post, so when the Amazon driver is approaching your door with a package, or you get impromptu company, you won't have to do the duck of shame.

I have discovered the most comfortable - and cute - cotton modal knit jersey sleep tee that can transform into an actual outfit in a pinch. You can do the same: find sleepwear that meets your comfort needs, yet looks almost like it could pass as regular clothes. It might be a soft pajama set, a sleep tee like mine, or maybe it's your favorite pair of sweats that are wonderfully broken in. Just follow these steps. This way, when you're running on 0% energy, your dignity can remain at 100%. Here's how I do it.

I start with my cotton jersey sleep tee. It's basically a t-shirt shift dress, hitting just above the knee. Except this dress is buttery soft, has a slouchy fit, and comes in a variety of colors. For me, soft fabrics, loose fits and unrestrictive necklines are key when I'm feeling lousy. I ordered one on Amazon, and loved it so much I immediately wanted more. So I employed the tried-and-true "Add to cart" and "Save for later" technique to ensure I got each color I wanted for the best price. God Bless Amazon Prime, amiright? It looks similar to this:

On its own, the sleep tee is already cute. But, it's still a sleep tee. So when the doorbell rings, I go with either of these 3 options:

  1. Throw on a long, soft cardigan

  1. Add a casual scarf

  1. Slip on a pair of cute (& easy) slide slippers

In no time, I can go from laying on the couch to looking fully dressed, and my delivery driver is none the wiser.

Side note, on the days you need to employ these tips, give yourself grace. If you need a day (or more) to rest, or you're fighting through a flare, there is no shame in that. Just put your favorite show on, eat good food that comforts you, and be kind to yourself. You deserve it. You're a strong, brave woman; you've got this. Just rest and resume when you're ready. Don't get overwhelmed. Just take things one step at a time. It may not initially seem like you're making much progress, but before long, you'll marvel at the distance you've traveled. And remember, you're not alone.
